Q&A with Charlotte Lawson, wellbeing coach & trainer

How would you describe yourself (and what you do):

Wellbeing coach.  Empowering busy professionals who feel like there is never enough time to press pause, build self-awareness and make choices that are right for them so that they can live enjoyable lives with more calm and less stress.

Who is your hero?

My Mum.  She’s amazing.  Calm, compassionate, loving, always there with a listening ear.  She has made such a difference to so many people in her life.  The individual was at the centre of everything she did in her career as a care home manager.  Not what would have been easy, or what others want for them, but making sure the individual’s wants and needs were met.  That’s what I want for my clients too; to draw out what is important to them, and empower them to make it their reality.

What is the favourite thing about your life/career?

The privilege of hearing people’s hopes, fears and dreams.  Being alongside them and watching them grow as they go from a place of frustration with themselves and their lives, to waking up every morning feeling good about themselves and the day ahead.

What makes you laugh the most?

My toddler.  She comes out with some hilarious things and pulls a really funny face when she’s particularly determined about something!

If you could choose to do/be anything for a day, what would it be?

Oooh great question.  I don’t actually want to be or do anything unusual, an incredible day for me would be with family or friends and would involve some sort of outdoors activity like skiing/walking/cycling/wild swimming, followed by some good food and then relaxing either with a book, watching the world go by or playing group games, this could be by a lake in summer, or snuggled up in front of the fire at a pub or home in winter.

If you were Queen of your own country, what would be the first law you would introduce?

Could I be a fairy queen?  I would sprinkle healthy self-esteem everywhere so everyone felt worthy of all the good things.

What is your pet peeve?

Not a lot annoys me, and even things like unkindness and people who are judgemental I can usually reframe to try to understand their motivations in the moment.  So generally it would be when I’m struggling myself, if I feel I’m being dismissed or unheard, I find that quite frustrating. Also I’m quite noise sensitive so cars with noisy exhausts, the washing machine, general sound overload, especially early in the morning I find hard.  Actually, here’s something I really don’t like… when people chew with their mouth open!  I find that pretty off-putting.

Do you have a family motto or life lesson you would like to share with us?

You are loved.  You are safe.  You are worthy.

Last book you read?

“Bears love squares” a book we borrowed from the library for my toddler.  Recently I have put my kindle down for a while because I get so into books that I can’t put them down and then end up having a really late night.  So for now my kindle has been put away to stop this happening while I catch up on some sleep!

Last song you sang to?

“I just can’t wait to be king” from the Lion King.  My little girl loves pretend play and at the moment she is often Mufasa and asks me to be Simba.
