The Year in Beaches

The gentle sound of the waves, the warm breeze and the feel of sand underfoot. Whether you are a beach lover or not-so-sure, there's a reason beaches make a great screensaver.

As I stare out of the window on a grey, damp, Janurary day, thoughts, inevitably turn to holidays (or house renovations…) so here is what a bit of research turned up looking into favourite beaches and when to visit. Your’re welcome.

JANUARY – You can’t beat the Caribbean to chase away winter blues.

FEBRUARY – With 10 hours of sunshine a day, The Maldives is the perfect spot for relaxation and activity.

MARCH – A great time to visit Thailand, with gorgeous evenings.

APRIL – A good all-rounder but April to June is the ideal time to visit.

MAY – The first of the Indian Ocean Islands to come out of rainy season makes The Seychelles ideal for a May escape.

JUNE – Summer in Spain and Portugal has so much to offer, without too much heat.

JULY – The warmest and driest month in French Polynesia. Bora Bora anyone?

AUGUST – Best for snorkelling in Bali.

SEPTEMBER – A little quieter Greece and Turkey make great September destinations.

OCTOBER – Hot without being hot-hot, now is a great time to visit Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Oman.

NOVEMBER – Another good all-year round beach destination but November sees a calmer tropical paradise in Mauritius.

DECEMBER – Mexico is a great beach destination for the winter months.
