Founded by the Hinteregger family in 1999, Sonnwies has grown organically from a small guesthouse on the owner’s farm to a modern family’s paradise.

The 75 stylish rooms, suites and villas are perfect for all family sizes, including single parents. The cozy atmosphere created by the alpine minimalist design allows for calm bedtimes. All rooms are furnished with low allergens in untreated natural local wood. Each room overlooks the forest, meadows, and mountain panorama. Many feature elegant glass fireplaces, private saunas, hot tubs, balconies and gardens. The Family Suites offer separate parent and children areas, so that different sleeping times can be taken into account. Studies have found that electromagnetic fields can affect a child’s developing brain, so all sleeping places have been transfigured with this in mind.
Family Nature Programme
Sonnwies’ unique weekly Family Nature Programme, revolves around the magical world of nature and sustainability. Children are taught about their surroundings through farm workshops, gardening, collecting eggs for their breakfast, sleepovers under the stars in the barn, feeding the over 30 animals housed in the property’s farm and learning the art of butter churning and cheese-making. In the winter, the whole family can enjoy complimentary direct access to the magic carpet and ski lift up to the 1km beginners ski slope located onsite.
Everything a Baby Could Need
Anyone travelling with a baby or toddler knows that every little detail needs to be considered. All baby equipment necessary is on offer, as well as fresh, healthy baby food and 60 complimentary hours of baby care. The extra warm 35°C children’s pool is complete with a waterslide, and Sonnwies provides extensive pram-friendly hiking trails for hikes with babies that start right from the property through the entire Lüsen Valley.
Farm to Table
The cuisine takes centre stage at Sonnwies’ gourmet restaurant, where culinary delights crafted from the finest local ingredients await discerning palates. The hotel’s own 1,200sqm organic garden is a significant supplier. As an introduction to the five-course dinner, guests enjoy homemade farm butter, bread and a wild herb and vegetable salad straight from the garden.

Sonnwies offers a fantastic water world for families as well as a 4000sqm family wellness spa; catering to everyone including children and pregnant women. Children can enjoy treatments such as ‘The Sleeping Beauty’ milk bath, or ‘The Snow White’ facial and light makeup treatment. Children are allowed to enjoy the sauna from 3pm-7pm and enjoy an exciting range of water slides, adventure pools and a pool cinema. Sonnwies offers baby treatments such as a Baby Bubble Bath and future mums can enjoy a dream bath, massage and even a plaster cast of their baby belly. There is also the Adults-Only spa with further treatments available. The indoor and outdoor pools are heated all year round.
Commitment to Sustainability
Sonnwies recognizes that the Dolomites are a natural paradise and is committed to preserving the pristine beauty of its surroundings by minimizing its ecological footprint. Sonnwies uses 100% CO2-free electricity from a local hydropower plant and is heated using the hotel’s own biomass boiler. The resort’s own biomass cogeneration plant supplies the entire system with climate-neutral heat from renewable raw materials. The hotel uses spring water only from the Dolomites for the swimming pools, spa and cooking, as well as using own-grown produce and local regional suppliers. Sonnwies strives to ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy the natural wonders of South Tyrol for years to come.
