We fell rather hard for Silva when we first discovered Into the Woods Cumbria. Then we heard another treehouse was coming. We’ve been following the build ever since – and now Luna is finally here. And, well, just look at her.
There are some projects you find yourself becoming strangely invested in.
You see the first few posts. A structure starts to appear. Walls go up. Windows arrive. You keep checking back to see what’s happened next.
That’s pretty much been us with Luna Treehouse.
We first discovered Into the Woods Cumbria through Silva, its rather magical luxury treehouse hidden away on a family farm in the Eden Valley. Built largely from timber grown on the farm, Silva managed to combine two things that don’t always naturally go together: a genuinely beautiful grown-up escape and the sort of place that makes you want to behave like an eight-year-old again. There is, after all, a slide.
So when owners Lucy and Grant Rowley announced that a second treehouse was taking shape in the woods, we were intrigued.
We’ve been following Luna’s progress ever since.
And now she’s finished.
Meet Luna
Luna is the newest member of the Into the Woods family and, rather than simply recreating Silva, Lucy and Grant have taken what they learnt from building their first treehouse, along with feedback from the people who’ve stayed there, and gone bigger.
Sleeping six in three king-size ensuite bedrooms, Luna has been constructed with a steel frame and timber from the family farm. Its huge living-room window and wrap-around glass balconies look out towards the Northern Lakeland fells and the surrounding forest.
And it really is quite a view.
By day, you can look out towards the fells and keep an eye open for some of the woodland residents; deer, owls, hares, kestrels and badgers among them. By night, those enormous windows become rather good for staring at the stars.
This is very much the luxurious side of living in the woods: underfloor heating, dressing gowns, three ensuite bathrooms, a wood burner and a properly equipped kitchen rather than a camping stove and crossed fingers.
But thankfully, they’ve resisted making it too sensible.
There’s a four-metre slide. Obviously.
Because this is Into the Woods.
Luna comes with a four-metre-high slide that takes you down to the outdoor kitchen, as well as a games room, an 1980s jukebox, pizza oven, BBQ, firepit and wood-fired hot tub.
There’s also a heated outdoor shower, which sounds either completely glorious or mildly terrifying depending on the Cumbrian weather when you visit.
And no Wi-Fi.
We’re increasingly coming around to the idea that this might be a luxury rather than an inconvenience.
For an extra treat, there’s a “Pop and Plunge” option, where the wood-fired hot tub is heated before you arrive and champagne is waiting on ice. Guests can also book a woodland sauna, ice bath and relaxation experience through Into the Woods’ collaboration with Embrr Sauna.
We can already picture it: hot tub, glass of something cold, trees all around and absolutely no possibility of checking your emails.
Perfect.
Built with its surroundings, not just in them
One of the things we loved when we first discovered Silva was that Into the Woods isn’t a glamping business that happens to have been dropped into a pretty bit of countryside.
The Rowleys’ family farm has been in the family for generations, and Lucy and Grant describe themselves as custodians of the land. They work to improve biodiversity across the woodland, wildflower meadows, hedgerows and ponds, while the timber used for the wooden structures on the site is grown on the farm itself.
It’s also very much a family affair. Grant’s background and passion lie in forestry, while Lucy describes herself as happiest being with and around people. Their original ambition was simply to share the place they love with more people and, importantly, to make it fun.
Luna feels like the next chapter of that story.
One treehouse or two?
Here’s where things get particularly interesting if you’re planning a bigger celebration.
Luna and Silva each sleep six and are secluded enough to be booked independently, but they’re also close enough together that both can be booked for a group of up to 12 people.
Which has immediately got us thinking about milestone birthdays, multi-generational family weekends and those increasingly rare occasions when you manage to get your favourite people in the same place at the same time.
Although we’re equally tempted by Luna with five friends, a stack of food for the pizza oven and nowhere else we need to be for the weekend.
