Congratulations to all of us! We have made it through the most depressing month of the year and have landed in the month of LOVE! What better way to celebrate than with the most sensuous of colours, RED.
So, February means we can’t escape the truck loads of romance-inspired products littering the high street, but for me, it’s about embracing self-love, creating a cocoon of comfort to surround ourselves.
I’ve lost count of the amount of women who take a deep intake of breath when I even mention the R words and confidently state “Oh no, red isn’t for me. I look awful in it”. Let me tell you ladies… Red is for everyone, I promise you this. You just have to pay attention to the undertone, depth of colour and brightness. Once you know where you stand on that scale, red, along with nearly all other colours becomes your friend, and maybe even a superpower.

When we look into Colour Therapy, red is the colour of our Base, or First Chakra, which is linked with feeling grounded and rooted in the earth, community, and yourself. Sounds good to me!
It’s associated with fire, confidence and danger. It’s also associated with love and passion, hence our devotion to the shade this month. In history, it’s been associated with both the Devil and Cupid. What’s more, red can actually have a physical effect on people, raising blood pressure and respiration rates- interesting stuff eh?
So, if you fancy reaching for red this Valentine’s month, here is my pick of the best sizzling scarletts!
These Carvela boots are the ultimate in sexy temptress, with their spikey heel, super-sexy texture and perfect padlock detail. It’s a little Valentine’s nod that would brighten up any outfit. My tip would be pairing them with a plain black dress and let the boots do the talking!
Want red and romantic but flattering and comfy? Look no further than this super swingy shirt dress from River Island. It’s the perfect shape for skimming a tummy, so you can dig into that romantic dinner without a care in the world. And the puff sleeve detail balances out hips to perfection. My tip would be to pair it with some patterned black tights and chunky boots, then chuck over a black leather jacket for an edgy, yet sexy look.
Is there anything bolder than a block colour overcoat? I think not my friends, and it’s a brilliant way to brighten up any outfit/ Literally, just chuck it on! This super-oversized number from Zara is cut to perfection with beautiful slanted pockets and a brilliant back detail, very flattering and ideal to throw over a casual outfit with trainers or a smart frock and heels. It will just run and run in any wardrobe and be a perfect investment item.
Now then, I know I’m aiming big here but I saw this AMAZING gift set of GUCCI Mini’s and I just had to include it! I mean, imagine if someone tipped up and casually chucked this on your desk… Even better… imagine if you just wandered down and grabbed it for yourself?! But if you, like me realise that this is just a pipedream then fear not, my beloved Primark are the holders of all the best mini bags, with lots of red inspo right now, and much more purse friendly… a girl can dream though eh?
To finish? Well it has to be a red lip… my absolute fave red lippy right now is from Hourglass and this 100% vegan red lipstick delivers high-impact colour in one swipe with a satin crème finish. What more could a girl ask for?
So lap it up ladies, embrace the rosy side and celebrate yourselves in this month’s hottest shade!
