As the season turns, the interior designers offer some tips for bringing the outside into your home and creating a cosy space for all to enjoy
Warm colours such as russet reds and pumpkin orange along with mossy green and soft browns have long been synonymous with the autumn season. ILIV’s nature-inspired designs in colours that reflect those found in nature at that time of year offers the perfect way to bring the outside in during the autumnal months. Here is how you can bring it into your home…
Layering for a warm and cosy feel
Debbie Leigh, Design Manager at ILIV advises, “One of the quickest ways to bring in that warm and cosy feeling we all long for during the cooler months, is to add layers of soft furnishings to our homes, such as throws, cushions and curtains. From cosy living rooms to snuggly bedrooms, cleverly layered textiles not only create a cohesive look but help to create a feeling of warmth.
“Soft furnishing have a significant impact on the overall feel of a room. Layer plains and patterns carefully; when using bold patterns on upholstery it is best to keep the cushions plain or go for a plain fabric for the upholstery and experiment with a mixture of colours and patterns on scatter cushions”, continues Debbie.
Choosing Curtains
Debbie advises, “For a subtle look, pick a fabric for your curtains that is slightly lighter or darker than your wall tone. If you prefer a contrasting colour, choose an accent colour from in the room, drawing a shade from a cushion or throw for example. Another great tip is to hang thermal lined curtains; good quality, lined curtains are worth the investment. They are suitable all-year-round offering temperature control and privacy and their ability to help keep the cold air from seeping into the home makes them particularly useful during the autumn and winter months. Blackout and thermal linings are also great for bedroom curtains as they help to keep the room warm, increase energy efficiency and block out unwanted light promoting a good night’s sleep.”
