As the chill of autumn gives way to the frost of winter, 2024’s fashion trends bring a blend of sophistication, creativity, and a dash of boldness. Well doesn’t that sound posh?! But my advice is, as always, to dress for YOU and your own joy.
Having said that I have always loved looking at trends, playing with new looks, and experimenting with fashion as it flows, it’s all part of the FUN!
So here for you is a basic breakdown of some of my fave look for this winter… you will see hints of them in our collections and across the high street. Make them work for you, and remember you can’t get being you wrong!
Maximalist Outerwear: Capes, Oversized Coats, and Shearling
Outerwear takes centre stage this season, with designers embracing oversized silhouettes and dramatic shapes. Capes, once a staple of high-fashion runways, are making their way into mainstream fashion, offering a chic alternative to the traditional coat. Whether in luxe wool or sustainable faux fur, capes add a regal touch to any outfit. You know I love a big snuggle throw over so keep your eyes peeled on our colourful take on this season’s jackets with exaggerated lapels, bold colours, and interesting textures. Shearling, is one of my faves and it’s back in the spotlight, offering warmth and luxury in equal measure. Think oversized shearling-lined coats in rich earth tones or pastels, perfect for layering over everything and anything.
Statement Leather
Leather continues its reign in autumn/winter fashion, but this year, thankfully, it goes beyond the classic black jacket. Expect to see leather in rich jewel tones like emerald, ruby, and deep amethyst, adorning everything from tailored pants to midi skirts and oversized blazers. Its time to play with different textures, cuts, and finishes, making leather not just an accent but a full-fledged statement. Patent leather, suede, and embossed leather all have their moment this season, with a focus on sustainability through vegan leather options as well.
Vibrant and Unexpected Colour Palettes
Traditionally, autumn/winter fashion leans heavily into darker hues like navy, black, and grey. In 2024, however, we’re seeing a departure from this with vibrant, almost spring-like colours making an appearance. Shades of bright pink, cobalt blue, and tangerine are injecting life into the winter wardrobe, breaking the monotony of typical cold-weather colours.
Rich jewel tones like emerald green, sapphire, and ruby red are also trending, offering a more sophisticated alternative for those who prefer darker palettes. These colours are being seen across everything from cozy knitwear to statement outerwear, ensuring that this season’s collections are anything but dull.
You know this is my vibe! It’s time to colour in our lives! Winter blues who?!
Textures: Velvet, Tweed, and Quilted Fabrics
Texture plays a huge role in the 2024 autumn/winter fashion trends, with designers embracing rich, tactile fabrics that exude luxury and warmth. Velvet, in particular, has made a major comeback. From velvet blazers to flowing maxi dresses, the plush fabric offers both comfort and a sense of old-world glamour. It’s especially popular in deep, dramatic colors like burgundy, midnight blue, and forest green. Tweed, another classic fabric, is reimagined for the modern woman (that’s us by the way). Seen in structured jackets, skirts, and even accessories like bags and shoes, tweed’s textured appeal fits perfectly with the season’s mix of traditional and contemporary fashion
Quilted fabrics, too, are having a moment, not just in outerwear but in skirts, dresses, and bags. This season’s quilting is more refined, often paired with sleek silhouettes to create a stylish yet cozy feel. I love it with a bit of denim…
Bold Accessories: Over-the-Top Scarves
When it comes to accessories, bigger is better this season. Oversized scarves, almost blanket-like in their proportions, are a must-have for autumn/winter 2024. These voluminous scarves are worn draped over shoulders or looped around the neck multiple times, adding a cozy yet fashion-forward layer to any outfit. It’s a super easy way to brighten up the black basics.
Footwear: Knee-High Boots and Chunky Soles
Did I hear a zig a zig ahhhhh?! In footwear, knee-high boots are dominating the runways, particularly in classic leather and suede. Whether flat or heeled, these boots add an elegant, timeless touch to any outfit and are perfect for pairing with skirts, dresses, and even under wide-leg trousers for a sleek look.
Chunky-soled boots and loafers, another major trend, continue to be popular this season. Offering both comfort and style, these shoes are perfect for adding an edge to softer, more tailored pieces, like our tutu skirts and SJP floaty numbers.
Combat boots with exaggerated soles, in particular, are a standout trend for those who prefer a grungier, street-style look.
In short, the 2024 autumn/winter season is all about blending the bold with the classic. From maximalist outerwear to rich textures and vibrant colours, women’s fashion is set to be both adventurous and elegant- for me it’s the perfect combo!
This season encourages a playful mix of tailored, oversized, and statement pieces, allowing for individual expression while staying chic and cozy through the colder months.
Whether you’re drawn to leather, vibrant palettes, or dramatic accessories, this season’s trends offer endless possibilities for staying stylish while making a statement.
Now go forth and play, have fun, experiment, and embrace your true authentic self.
