Summer is on the horizon and protecting the kids' sensitive skin from the sun can be quite a mission. Here are some of our trusted finds...
The factors and rating can be a bit confusing but here’s what we have figured out. You want a five-star UV rating – that’s the amount of protection against UVA rays. Then you want a high SPF factor – this is how much UVB protection that is offered. This tells you how long the sun’s rays will take to redden skin when using the sunscreen versus without. So SPF 50 means that it would take 50 times longer to burn, than without. General rule of thumb, always reapply after two hours, max.
Our go-to sunscreen: La Roche-Posay spf50+ invisible spray, £23
Why? It’s easy to apply and sinks in well, so there’s no paler than pale faces staring back at you. It’s great for sensitive skin (for our eczema sufferer) and it’s sweat, water and sand-resistant too. So much so, it does get used by the whole family.
Our favourite throw-in-the bag and off you go sunscreen: Boots Soltan Kids SPF5+ roll on, £6.50
For super easy and quick application this is the one. Roll it on, rub it in and you are covered. Not sticky and it only needs to be applied every 8 hours which gives you some peace of mind if you miss the two hour alarm for re-application.
Our favourite for water babies (large and small): Lancaster SPF50+ water-resistant milky spray, £28
This is perfect for kids that are constantly in and out of the water as it can be applied to wet skin and sinks in immediately.
For teens: Spots & Stripes SPF30, £25
Designed specifically for teenage skin it doesn’t block pores, plus it is packed full of organic loveliness and rubs in easily.
