All about the moon

Do you ever notice your energy around the full moon feeling heightened? Possibly a little erratic?

Full moon time is an intense moment where we feel at our fullest, but take note… whatever we are feeling is alsoo amplified. Think BIG energy! If we’re nice and balanced it’s a wonderful time of feeling strong, full, abundant, and complete, but if a little pushed and pulled we can feel a little mentally “over-heated.” Our behavior can be a bit erratic and with that, we may experience emotional and physical tension.

It’s so interesting to observe. When I started learning about the lunar cycle and its patterns I had quite an a-ha moment.

Like the menstrual cycle, there are four phases: New moon, Waxing moon, Full moon and Waning moon.

It is so interesting how the energies of these phases mimic those of the menstrual cycle and our seasons:

New moon – this replicates our menstrual phase energies and that of the Winter season. It is a time for restful energy and reflection.

Waxing moon – this aligns with our follicular phase and that of Spring. It is the time of growth and new beginnings; a great time to use your energy to brain-storm, plan and initiate projects.

Full moon – this matches how we feel in our ovulation stage and Summer. It is our peak energy time where we have peak growth and peak visibility. Be sure  to get out and pitch any business ideas, market away and be heard with  this stage’s natural confidence.

Waning moon – this time aligns with our luteal phase and the season of Autumn. It is the time to slow down and turn inward; to start wrapping things up and tying up loose ends.

It’s fascinating to the observe the patterns. Everything feels so beautifully connected and simple through Mother Nature. As a yogi we can learn to work with the different energies at different times more efficiently to align ourselves more with the nature around us.

A simple way is to jot down the dates of the full and new moons in your diary and adapt your work and exercise styles around them. You could go a stage further and keep a journal to note how you are feeling at the different times. It may enable you to see patterns.

As a teacher I practice yoga differently around the moon cycle, particularly the full and new moon.
