Stylist, Kate Harrison, is back with her second installment of Autumn/Winter 2022 trends...
As a stylist, I always advise my clients that it’s never about buying everything new every season, but rather taking elements of fashion and working it into your existing wardrobe. So while you are reading, keep one eye on what you have already. You might be surprised at what you can un-earth! Grab a brew, take a breath and enjoy a fashion fix with the second installment of my top trends.
Know your Knits.
It’s that time of year again! Let’s get snuggly in our knits and this season there are more than ever, not just our old fave the chunky cardy either. Think skirts, trousers, jumpsuits, and tank tops in this season’s must-have wooly wonders!
I can’t lie, I’m a bit obsessed with this jumpsuit from Never Fully Dressed, £99. Its bold colour and super soft knit make it a very easy choice and whether it’s worn with heels and hoops or trainers and a bubble coat it’s an absolute winner in every department.
Show some Skin.
Body con is back in a big way. Skin-tight fabrics and flaunting the curves is definitely not just for the twiglets, this is about embracing your shape and going with the flow. Super sheer fabrics are everywhere and cut-out shapes mean that you can take this from the tiniest flash of flesh to a full-on reveal depending on your mood.
This gorgeous asymmetric dress from Zara, £59.99. is the perfect example of this trend and the abstract print is super flattering. If the one shoulder gives you the shivers they also have plenty of bra-friendly options too in a similar fabric so why not give it a whirl?
Suits to make a Splash!
Black suits are off the menu this year with bold, bright tailoring making a huge impact on the High Street. This is such a fab look as it can form the basis of so many outfits. Pop the blazer over your little black dress, add a clutch and heels, or dress the trousers down with a chunky knit and trainers, it’s one wardrobe investment that will just keep on giving.
This purple two-piece from Fearne Cotton’s Happy Place range at Nobody’s Child (£65 trouser, £95 blazer) is my absolute favorite! The bold coloring and soft lines make it uber easy to mix and match with pretty much everything. Let’s face it though, worn together makes the biggest style splash ever!
It’s all in the Prep.
Oh, we have gone all Elle Woods again with the emergence of the preppy, super short kilts. Bold tartans and traditional houndstooth have been given a 2022 makeover with runways chock a block with this funky look. Bit too short? Pop it with your winter tights and some chunky boots for a wearable winter wardrobe winner.
Warehouse, £49 skirt and £79 jacket, has made this trend very accessible with this gorgeous tweed set. The colour is amazing and if it’s a bit much for you altogether, just buy the skirt and pop it with a polo neck and tights.
So there you go, a little warm-up as the weather cools down. It’s not about reinventing the wheel, just oiling it slightly, so see what treats your wardrobe already holds and work it in from there. Most of all enjoy it, fashion is fun so let’s not take this too seriously.
