With 20 years of styling under her belt, we asked Kate Harrison for some autumn trends advice...
Autumn/ Winter 2022 is here in full swing… the rain is a-bouncing and those mornings are feeling a little bit nippy. Now is the time to warm up by seeing what’s hot when it comes to fashion this Fall. And fear not, it doesn’t mean a whole new wardrobe, in fact, this year, more than most there are many trends re-appearing from a few years ago. So settle down, take a breath and grab a fashion fix with Part 1 of my top trends for this Autumn.
Let’s get waisted.
Before you reach for the gin, stand down ladies. This is about accentuating your waist and not being blind drunk (although I can feel the mulled wine calling). Corsets are BACK… which is terrifying and exciting in equal measures. Think structured tops – perfect for under blazers and cardigans. Great for creating the illusion of a waist too, wear your shapewear on the outside! Who says we can’t be superheroes?
For a nod to this trend without full exposure, try this Emily Atack corset from New Look, £25.99.
Maxi length must-haves.
This one is music to my ears! If you aren’t keen on the leg department then maxi, long looooong skirts, and dresses are in! Plus… less hair removal – boom. A great way to maximise your existing summer maxis is to just chuck a chunky knit over the top or a thin polo neck layer underneath to warm them up and lower the price per wear.
This orange number from Mango (available from NextUK online, £50) comes with a matching shirt for a super slinky evening vibe or just chuck it with a knit and chunky boots for a funky daytime look.
Leather- as always.
I mean, it’s always in, but to be honest, this season more than most. Think pleated skirts, tailored jackets, and sexy trousers. My top tip is to think outside the box
with colour – it doesn’t always have to be black! Olive, plum, grey, and navy are all amazing options and are neutral shades that will go with most of your basics.
Keep the leather or faux, if you prefer, buttery soft – this will gift wrap your curves rather than creating a boxy silhouette. These olive trousers are from River Island Petite collection, £45 – but if you are longer in the leg they also look great as ankle skimmers- super flattering!
Take Flight!
Let’s go all Maverick in our flight jackets, this includes bombers too. It’s a look that’s been around a while with a definite sport-luxe vibe. Think silky fabrics, contrasting cuffs, and oversized patch details. A cool alternative to a blazer, just chuck it with your jeans or dressed up with heels for a funky evening look.
This Ted Baker number (£195) is a more refined take on this trend. The fine embroidery detail gives it a very luxurious feel and it will see you through year on year as a lightweight option.
So what are you waiting for? Have some fashion fun and see which of these trends tickles your fancy. Enjoy trying new styles and above all don’t overthink it, wear what feels good.
