Spring Style is in the Air

Ok so we may be having a cold snap but spring is very much in the air fashion wise, with fresh drops hitting the high street on a daily basis. But what to choose? Fear not girls, here is my super quick rundown part 1, of what’s hot and where to find it.

A Pocket full of happiness

Pockets are BIG NEWS this spring, and the key here is to work out where YOU should be wearing YOURS (spoiler alert – it’s probably different to your friends).

Pockets draw attention and add bulk. This can be a massive game changer when you work out where this benefits you, and when it’s not the best. They can be ace on the thighs or legs for balancing out a tummy or bigger bust, or great on the top half, shoulders and chest for slimming down a pear shaped thigh. My top tip is wherever you pop a pocket people will look – so choose wisely!

Pop these utility trousers (£39.99 from H&M) with a simple vest for a 90s feel. A short jacket will also lengthen the leg. The pockets are a little further down towards the knee so a lot more flattering on the thigh.

Bye-bye horizontal hems

Asymmetric lines are everywhere this spring; on hemlines, flashing legs, left right and centre, to slung-over one-shoulders, to diagonal cut outs and I’m absolutely here for it! The diagonal lines this creates are so flattering, encouraging the eye to cut across the body length ways and corner to corner, creating a both slimming and lengthening effect.

Lovely lines aplenty on this romantic red number from River Island (£60). So flattering on the shoulder and if you want to wear Spanx underneath to smooth the silhouette then try cutting one of the legs off where the split is. Honestly, Kim K herself used to do this before bringing out her one-legged skims and it’s a game chager!

Denim Divas

If I could get even one toe into my 1998 flared Miss Sixty hipsters now would be the time to break those bad boys out of retirement. Denim is hot right now and it comes with studs, pockets, chains, you name it.

Not just to be found in your jeans, this spring its all over the body from corsets to boots. You name it, it’s indigo. Think Britney and Justin at the 2001 American Music Awards and you are well in the zone!

This trench coat from Zara (£99.99) is my absolute fave, shown here head to toe in matching boots or swap them out for trainers and combats for relaxed chic.

Boudoir Beauty

Bringing the bedroom to the school run? If you panic then you are more cheeky than me! But even I couldn’t wear my fleecy two-piece to drop off my daughter at the gates. This look is all about lacey delicates, and peek-a-boo details.

Ultra-feminine and super sexy, but easy to wear as a lacey top twinned with wide leg trousers or a silky skirt popped with a chunky knit. Careful on the scale with this one as super lightweight fabrics with shine and intricate detail can illusion dress you bigger as they catch the eye and mismatch proportions.

My fave tip for this look is to peruse the nightwear department. I have countless pairs of silky PJs that double up as evening wear tops! Check out this gorgeous Mango set (£22.99), perfect with a dressed down denim and heels for an on-trend drinks with the girls combo.

There are more super-stylish spring looks to come in my next instalment but for now, have a
play with what you fancy and delve back into that wardrobe. I’m sure we have seen these
before… I know that makes me vintage, how cool!
