From Cottage to Contemporary Charm
What began as a modest cottage in the village of Alaró has been transformed by Coertze & Clacher into something fresh, contemporary yet anchored in Mallorcan character. The story of Can Oreneta is about bridging the old and the new, the traditional and the modern.
The original home is “recently rebuilt”, with a design that “offers all the conveniences of a newly built property while still retaining the best parts of its Mallorquian charm.” From the early days of demolition to laying the final coat of lime render, the build journey is as fascinating as the final product.

The Materials Matter
Local materials were key to this transformation. From Mallorcan stone to timber, and lime render that breathes the team deliberately chose substances rooted in place. As their website sums up: “Uses the best Mallorquian materials.”
Sustainability is also built in: solar panels, salt-water pool, thoughtful landscaping. The house sits elevated with panoramic views, yet does so with a light touch.

Layers of Living
One of the joys of Can Oreneta is how indoor and outdoor living merge. The 22 m² salt-water infinity pool invites a summery ease. Terraces, French double doors, garage, wine cellar/home theatre, each element adds a layer of lifestyle, not just structure. It’s about creating a home that’s relaxed but refined. Casual Mediterranean evenings lounge-style, yet with every modern comfort.

Location with Soul
Alaró is no accident as a setting. Nestled in a scenic valley at the foothills of the UNESCO-listed Serra de Tramuntana mountains, the village offers authentic Mallorca far from the tourist bustle. The house, elevated with views over the village, integrates with the streetscape rather than dominating it. “Blends seamlessly into the existing attractive Alaró streetscape.” From the Saturday market to winding narrow lanes, the story of the place shows up in every stone.

Why This Build Matters
Can Oreneta isn’t just another luxury home. It encapsulates the ethos of purpose-driven design: beauty that matters, materials that respect place, and a lifestyle rooted in environment and community.
For anyone passionate about real architecture, thoughtful living, and the magic of Mallorca — this is what “behind the scenes” looks like when vision meets craft.
