Autumn Style

We were fooled for a minute but there is no doubting now that we are well into our Autumn Wardrobe.

It’s a time of year that I love, and as the trees shed their leaves, we too can shed some of the weight of bare bodies, skin flashing, bikini clad expectation, and start layering our looks to give comfort and warmth. Light the fire, grab your pumpkin spiced latte and let’s have a look at the key trends this season has to offer.

LADY IN RED

Red is absolutely the colour of the season, with top-to-toe bold hues all over the catwalks and now the high street. Red is a colour deeply connected with our Root chakra, meaning it conveys a sense of self- belief, confidence, and connection with our authentic selves. No wonder some of us struggle with it… When we feel a bit lost in ourselves, like so many of my clients describe before they start
their style journey, red can seem overpowering and scary.

My tip? Try it… growth only comes from discomfort. Playing it safe leads to very little forward movement so start small and work your wayup. Try an accessory to start with.I LOVE this Steve Madden Patent pair of heels. They make a killer statement and who knows, maybe if you channel Dorothy, you can click your heels and end up in OZ?

LIQUID METAL

Okidoki, I feel like the metals trend has been around for ages but oh yes, its back again and you know that when we start mentioning the C word, its going to come encrusted with crystals and beads too.

I am a fan of this one, because it gives us a very clever, safer feeling neutral to play with within our wardrobe and brings the silvers and golds out of our jewellery and into our fabrics- what a winner. This gorgeous suit is such a winner from French Connection and makes a really versatile addition to an Autumn Wardrobe. Team the trousers with trainers and one of this season’s chunky knits, wear the blazer with an on trend flared jean or wear the whole shebang together to make a
real statement.

LUSCIOUS LEGS

It’s inching towards tights weather and I’m a huge fan, but this season, it’s time to sway the black and boring old grey for something a bit more fun! Colour and patterns were all over London Fashion Week and the high street has stepped up, bringing us a great selection of fun and funky footwarmers – even better? We can pack the wax away for another year- hooray! My fave brand is Snag and these raspberry pies just make me smile sooooo much. Check them out for dopamine
dressing at its best and the ability to turn a boring staple into a wardrobe wonder!.

PLEATED PERFECTION

Think less Little Bo-peep and more super sleek, pleats are back, and in a big way! Whether its in sharply darted shirts, mid-length concertina skirts or wonderful wide leg trousers like these belters from Karen Millen. Pleats being available across the board is a great tool to use for us stylists, its one of the foundations of illusion dressing, putting a nice, defined vertical line precisely where they
gather- this attracts the eye and gives it the cue to look up and down – thus giving the illusion of
slimming and lengthening. In my book, that deserves a little happy dance.

Now go forth and let your Autumnal wardrobes flourish. I will be back soon with my remaining trends to get us talking. Now, where’s my woolly hat?
