Tile talk might not be the usual hot topic at brunch—but if your TikTok feed is anything to go by, tiles are having a serious moment. And we’re not talking about your nan’s beige bathroom floor circa 1997. Tiles in 2025 are bold, beautiful, and full of personality.
According to Google Trends, searches for ‘Tile Flooring’ have skyrocketed by over +1000% in the past five years. Meanwhile, ‘Porcelain Tiles’ are up +350%—a staggering +90% increase just this past year. It’s official: tiles have gone from functional background players to centre-stage design heroes.
So, what’s driving the surge? We asked Gavin Farrington, Head of Design at ROCCIA—the luxury tile, kitchen and bathroom brand that’s redefining interiors.
“Innovation is driving the demand,” Gavin tells us. “Tiles now cater to every interior aesthetic, from organic minimalism to bold maximalist statements. They’re durable, low-maintenance, and so much more versatile than people realise.”

Porcelain’s Glow-Up
Porcelain, it turns out, is a shapeshifter. Want the rustic charm of reclaimed wood but with none of the upkeep? There’s a tile for that. Dreaming of Calacatta marble floors without the price tag? Sorted. From wood-effect finishes to stone-inspired textures, the latest generation of tiles nail the look and the lifestyle benefits.
“Porcelain floor tiles that mimic wood or stone are not just beautiful—they’re hard-wearing, water-resistant and ideal for underfloor heating,” says Gavin. “You get that earthy, textured feel with a modern, low-fuss twist.”
XL Tiles, Big Impact
One of the biggest trends this year? Quite literally: large-format tiles.
“Oversized tiles, especially 120x120cm and the new XL 120x260cm formats, are blowing up right now,” Gavin shares. “They reduce grout lines for a cleaner, more seamless finish and give that high-end, contemporary feel.”
And don’t be fooled into thinking they’re only for sprawling open-plan homes. Installed correctly, large tiles can make a small bathroom look bigger—truly, a magic trick for space-challenged homes.

Outdoors Gets the Glow-Up
The tile trend isn’t confined to interiors. Searches for Outdoor Porcelain Tiles are up +650%, with homeowners swapping out decking and paving for anti-slip porcelain slabs that are as stylish as they are practical.
“People are investing more into their outdoor spaces—think pergolas, outdoor kitchens, alfresco lounges. Porcelain tiles complete that indoor-outdoor flow beautifully,” says Gavin. “Plus, they only need a simple clean once a year—so long, jet washer drama.”
Where Tiles Are Turning Heads in 2025
It’s not just about kitchens and bathrooms anymore. Tiles are creeping into surprising spaces—media rooms, hallways, feature staircases, even as wall art. On social, the hashtags #TikTokTiles and #CreativityWithTiles are booming, full of DIYers and designers pushing the boundaries.
“We’re seeing tiles used in ever more creative ways,” Gavin notes. “There’s a real movement around sensory, wellness-focused interiors—and tiles offer the tactility and calming textures people are craving.”
ROCCIA’s Wellness Collection is designed with this in mind—combining eco-conscious production, natural finishes, and biophilic design principles to create peaceful, restorative spaces. Think spa vibes, but make it your living room.

Trending, But Timeless
With all the buzz, it’s natural to worry about tile trends dating quickly. But according to ROCCIA, the secret to longevity lies in texture, tone and layout.
“Natural stone-look porcelain in soft neutrals like warm beige, off-white or soft greys is a safe bet,” Gavin advises. “Classic layouts like herringbone or chevron feel fresh but remain timeless. Deep greens and earthy terracottas also stand the test of time.”
And if you’re after something bold, terrazzo or encaustic-style tiles have deep roots in history and continue to evolve with modern flair.
Luxury Looks on a Budget
Tiles can feel like a splurge, but with a few clever tricks, they’re one of the easiest ways to elevate a space without blowing the budget.
“Focus on feature areas—behind the sink, around a fireplace, or just one statement wall,” says Gavin. “Use premium tiles in small doses and pair with neutral, budget-friendly ones. Even a creative layout, like vertical stripes or herringbone, can instantly give a designer finish.”
Oh—and don’t forget the grout. Contrasting grout can totally transform a space, giving standard tiles a cool, bespoke edge.
Our Take
Tiles in 2025 are about more than function. They’re about feeling—texture, tone, and turning your home into a sanctuary. Whether you’re dreaming of an open-plan Scandi haven or a moody, Mediterranean courtyard, there’s a tile for that. And with innovation, sustainability, and wellness at the core of the latest designs, your floors (and walls!) can finally look as good as they feel.
