A girly getaway? Romantic break? Or just time to recharge your batteries? Here's my go-to guide to making perfect packing a breeze so you can get cocktail ready without the fuss...
Think smart
More options equal more stress. Please remember that! In the 90’s a week’s self-catering in Zante called for a full on 89-piece runway collection however, in our 40s we should really know better and 3 days away can be kept minimal if you pack savvy.
I don’t know about you but stress is left at the front door along with school schedules and lots of lists when it comes to me-time, so a little preparation goes a very long way. Plan your outfits and allow for a little leeway for when plans change.
Hand it to yourself
Hand luggage is key for a speedy weekend getaway. Pack it all in a carry-on to avoid the bag check queues and start your break with a bang. My tip is to buy all your mini toiletries on the other side and grab one of those handy zip pocket bags for the fluids.
Luggage is one of the biggest ways to make a statement this season so stand out from the crowd on the carousel with a personalised or patterned print. I love this one from Lily & Bean.
Creative Co-Ords
One outfit – 3 ways. A co-ord is the perfect piece for a short break. Wear the shorts with a vest and flip flops for a daytime look, pop the two together with heels or wedges for a glam option, or chuck the shirt open over a basic jersey maxi dress for the ultimate comfy travel outfit. Minimal packing. Maximum impact.
Vesty nice.
A vest is essential for giving your outfits more options, so opt for one neutral colour, good quality item. This one from The White Company is one of my faves as it can be worn as a scoop or v neck even more options for a cohesive wardrobe.
Accessorise for the win.
For a quick break I like to keep my shoes neutral. Holidays signal no heels for me, so these Next, relaxed gladiator sandals are perfect for evening or daytime drinks. Chuck in a pair of flip flops for a poolside option and you are away. Plus, no tottering around the cobbles of the old town, nobody wants a broken ankle after a couple of sangrias do they?
As for handbags, keep them small and over the body. It means hands-free dancing at night and easy airport storage, plus they can be tucked in your hand luggage if security are particularly strict on your 1 carry-on bag rule. Now this is my absolute bag of dreams for YSL but the high street is littered with ravishing raffia options so head to H&M and Primark for some of the best!
The maxi skirt.
Maxi skirts are a great way to get more from your wardrobe. Layer it with your go-to swimsuit for a casual look or pop a vest and necklace with it and you are ready for cocktails. This tie-dye option from Zara looks fab with the white/ cream vest from underneath the pink co-ord and with the sandals and bag will make a super elegant day or nighttime look.
One perfect swimsuit.
One perfect swimsuit can go a very long way, so give them the time they deserve and look for something that will work with you. So many products now double up as contour wear to provide support and confidence. This stunning Bravissimo option can also be popped with your maxi skirt and shorts to create yet another daytime or evening look from your clever capsule wardrobe.
Leggy Lovelies.
Shorts or trousers? well it’s up to you. It’s a subject I always discuss with clients, as it really is a case or what you feel best in, or if you fancy pushing out of your comfort zone?! My top tip would be to find your best length. Pick a point on your leg that you like and finish the length there. It could be your thigh, ankle or somewhere in between, but wherever you pop that horizontal line the eye is drawn there, so choose wisely.
So there you go my lovelies. Just a few tips to make your mini break packing a breeze, now just add cocktails!
