The UK’s best treehouse stays

A round-up of some of the best treehouses to escape to, reconnect with nature and recharge (with or without family and friends).

Silva Tree house, Maughanby Farm, Little Salkeld, Penrtih

This 6-person treehouse (pictured in feature image) looks over the stunning Blencathra Hills and is complete with hot tub, wood burner, under floor heating and, of course, a ping pong table. This is a belter! Ideal for a big family like ours or to go with friends and relax in nature but with all the modern cons too.

It’s a really unique find and Grant and Lucy (the owners who have 4 children) have thought of all the little touches. My children love the games room reached by the slide!  There is also a bbq, pizza oven and firepit for alfresco meals and stargazing nights. Keep an eye out for roe deer and tawny and brown owls! My boys saw them all.

Sky Den, Northumberland

As featured on George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces described this architectural spectacular resides in Kielder Water and Forest Park. It’s no ordinary treehouse either, it’s roof opens up so that you can take in the spectacular dark skies, without having to leave. Designed in partnership with Clarke himself, the interiors are not luxurious but  have been designed to maximise space with fold-away furniture. Plus, there’s an outdoor adventure centre a short walk away offers watersports, climbing, zip-lining and bushcraft.

It’s one that gets booked up super quickly, but for those who want to completely escape and gaze into the galaxy beyond, we promise that it will be worth the wait.

Boulder Field Cabin, Derbyshire

Tucked away up a steep path, this 10ft square timber and glass cabin lies on the edge of a giant boulder field in the Peak District National Park. This one is most definitely all about the views.

This is one for those who love the outdoors and want to get closer to nature with a separate composting loo and outside shower fixed to ancient limestime slabs. It does come complete with a wood-fired cedar hot tub on a lower deck, though. Rowtor Rocks caves are only about a five-minute walk away.

Bob’s Lodge, Warwickshire

Sleeping up to 8, the ultimate feature at Bob’s is the fourth bedroom housed in a geodesic dome with 360-degree views. You will have to like your holiday companions though!

Part of a working livestock farm (complete with neighbours of inquisitive alpacas) this Cotswolds cabin is on two levels, complete with wide timber terrace, a seven-seater hot tub and a slide whizzing down to a wide lawn. It’s fun.

Uisge, Argyll and Bute

If it’s clean, modern design that you are looking for then Uisge (pronounced Oosh-ka) then this striking rust-red steel, Highland bothy is the one for you. Sitting at the edge of a lochan near Oban on a 1,200-acre hill farm littered with Neolithic ruins Uisge is reached by the owner’s boat.

It may be all about escaping but Uisge does not skim on style, form and function from the pages of World of Interiors. Hats off to you. Trees from Loch Awe have become a beautiful table and bench; stoneware is by Argyll Pottery; sheepskins are from Skye. You also have a paddleboard and kayak, fishing rods and farm-to-bothy breakfast hampers.
