As we begin to think about Spring, there’s lots to be doing in the garden
Complete any bare root planting – the season is about to end with the onset of Spring and new growth.
Sort any last minute moves of shrubs or trees before new growth starts.
Sow seeds indoors – e.g. sweet peas, ammi, amaranthus, nigella, tomato, cucumbers and sweet peppers.
Sow seeds outdoors – spinach, broad beans, carrots and parsnips.
Plant potatoes – Mother’s Day is a good date for the calendar for the First Earlies.
Weed borders whilst it’s manageable and you have more time.
Pot up dahlias to give them a head start.
Prune shrubs such as buddleia and hydrangea arborescens ‘Annabelle’ or hydrangea paniculata to encourage large flowers.
