Sales shopping season is upon us. Are you first out of the blocks or a serial sale avoider?
Either way, there can be value in a little bit of discount retail therapy, here are my top tips to come away with beautiful bargains rather than costly cock-ups.
Incredible Investments
Sales time is the perfect opportunity to raise the bar when it comes to your wardrobe and think aspirational brands. Often these are the bad boys with the best discounts, but you have to get in early to snap up a super bargain. Subscribe to the newsletters and updates of your preferred brands to receive exclusive access codes before the masses are allowed in – and it saves you queuing outside in the cold!
Perfectly Practical
So, there are things you want, and things you NEED. The two can get confused – especially at sale time! We get drawn to the glitter and the shiny and the pretty and before you know it, the bag is packed and its in the car boot. Shit, the magpie factor strikes again. This year think about what you NEED, be it a winter coat, leather boots or those trainers you have had your eye on. What will fill the gap in your wardrobe and get worn again and again? Go for THAT thing and you cant go wrong.
Bold Bargains
Sales can be a great time to push yourself out of your comfort zone when it comes to colour. Those beautiful bolds that you were too scared to try will make far less of a dent in your purse than in December, and guess what? Most people were too afraid to try them too so they are DEFO down at least 50%. Be daring and try them out – maybe a funky pair of shoes, cute handbag or a statement coat would just lift your existing wardrobe and add a welcome splash of colour.
Pick it on Price Per Wear
Price per wear is gospel when it comes to any wardrobe addition but especially in sale time. All you do it take the price of the item and work out how many times you are going to wear it. I honestly have stuff in my wardrobe that is in the £0.01 club – had it for years, wear it constantly and still love it! Seek out THAT stuff and do your maths before you buy.
Do it your way
My top tip? Have fun. If it brings you joy and doesn’t get you into shed loads of debt then do more of that! Shake the pressure to buy the perfect bargain and just go with the flow. And if that means avoiding the sales altogether then do exactly that! My fave approach? Online, in my PJ’s with a Baileys on ice in hand. Happy new year to all!
