Joanne Koukis, founder of Outpour, on why we love rosé so much...

Rosé’s popularity is almost stratospheric, it’s not just for summer anymore. Once seen as a sort of ‘girly drink’ that you could throw a few ice cubes in and enjoy in the sun, today all that is changing.

Sales in the UK and worldwide continue to grow, as do the prices from Provence! And that’s thanks to the women in the UK who have definitely driven the popularity and kept the good pink stuff coming in from France and the rest of the world. It took a while for popularity with men to take off, but it has. Did you know that men even have their own (#brosé) movement going on.

Why the growth in rosé love? Well, rosé is a food pairing dream. We eat it all the time with Chinese food. It can take some heat, some deep frying, richer sauces, and a
variety of meats. It will go brilliantly with your weekly takeaway.

We all know that rosés mean summer and are great on their own (ice cubes optional) or at any picnic or BBQ. In the UK we tend to drink rosés on their own or have them as an aperitif but we’re missing a trick as they are super versatile and can be brought to any dinner party to pair up with the host’s food.

There is a real drive for paler rosés. It’s true, they look great but don’t overlook rosés made with more skin contact and deeper coloured grapes. They can still be dry and utterly delicious. So many countries make rosé wines (try a Spanish or Italian one) so it’s worth continuing your rosé adventure and tasting around the world.

Some of our standout favourites:

Domaine La Bauqière Rosé (with the best label ever). It tastes twice as expensive as the cost.

But our absolute favourite is called MISS (Made in South and Sea) Rosé and it’s staggeringly good.
