Why the Humble Vibration Plate is Having a Moment

From Trinny Woodall’s morning routine to a quick kitchen reset between emails and making dinner, vibration plates are having a comeback. And after adding one to my daily routine, I can see why.

There’s a reason vibration plates are suddenly everywhere again, and it isn’t just nostalgia for those slightly questionable noughties gym fads.

The latest wave of converts includes Trinny Woodall, who’s shared her go-to 10-minute morning routine using one. Her approach is refreshingly simple: even when a full workout isn’t on the cards, a few minutes of movement can help shake off that morning sluggishness and get the day going.

And while I’m all for starting the morning with a spring in my step, I’ve actually discovered that it’s the evenings when my vibration plate really earns its keep.

The 5pm Slump Is Real

You know that feeling when you’ve spent most of the day sitting at your laptop, driving children here, there and everywhere, and suddenly you feel cold, sluggish and completely lacking in motivation?

That.

It’s the point in the day when I find myself thinking a glass of wine might be just the thing to perk me up. Although, let’s face it, that doesn’t always help with getting everything else done!

Instead, I’ve started stepping onto my vibration plate for a few minutes.

And strangely enough, it works for me.

I don’t treat it as a proper workout or even a particularly organised session. It’s more of a little reset. A few minutes here, a few minutes there, usually while I’m doing something else entirely.

Replying to messages on my phone. Waiting for dinner to cook. Folding washing. All those little pockets of time that usually disappear without us noticing.

Meet My New Kitchen Companion

I’ve been using the MERACH Vibration Plate, and one of the biggest reasons I’ve actually stuck with it is that it’s so compact.

There’s no need to clear a room, dig out gym clothes or make a special effort to use it.

Mine lives in the kitchen, tucked out of the way until I need it. It’s small enough not to take over the space, but convenient enough that I can hop on for a few minutes while the kettle boils or dinner is in the oven.

And I think that’s the secret.

If something feels like another job on the to-do list, the chances of me keeping it up are fairly slim. But if I can fit it into what I’m already doing? Much more likely.

The MERACH is also designed to be quiet, with a claimed operating noise level of under 40 decibels, so there’s no great mechanical racket accompanying my evening reset.

It has an LED display, manual and automatic modes, and adjustable intensity settings, meaning you can start gently rather than feeling as though you’ve accidentally signed up for a boot camp.

But Do Vibration Plates Actually Work?

This is where things get interesting.

Whole-body vibration isn’t a new concept. The idea is that standing on a vibrating platform creates small, rapid movements that encourage your muscles to contract and work to maintain stability.

Researchers have explored whether vibration training can help with muscle strength, balance, mobility and certain rehabilitation outcomes.

Some studies have reported encouraging results, including research involving people with knee osteoarthritis. However, the evidence is still developing, and results vary depending on the individual, the type of vibration used and how the equipment is incorporated into an exercise programme.

There’s also plenty of conversation online about circulation and lymphatic drainage, although the scientific evidence for some of the more enthusiastic claims remains limited.

So, no, I’m not suggesting that standing on a vibrating plate for five minutes is going to replace the gym, transform your fitness or magically solve every ache and pain.

If only!

But I am interested in anything that encourages a little more movement, particularly when so much of our day can be spent sitting down.

Having had knee operations myself, and with osteoporosis in the family, I’m particularly interested in looking after my strength and mobility as I get older. Of course, vibration plates aren’t suitable for everyone, especially those with certain medical conditions or joint problems, so it’s worth checking with a healthcare professional before using one if you have any concerns.

It’s the Little Things

What I like most about my MERACH plate isn’t a dramatic transformation or a promise of overnight results.

It’s how easy it is to use.

When I reach that cold, tired, can’t-be-bothered stage of the evening, a few minutes on the plate seems to wake me up.

My legs feel warmer and less heavy, and I often feel a little more alert afterwards.

Is that down to the vibration itself, the fact that I’ve got up from my chair, or simply taking a few minutes to do something different?

Possibly a bit of everything.

But whatever the reason, I’ve found it a genuinely useful addition to my routine.

A Little Luxury Without the Big Price Tag

Another reason the MERACH caught my eye was the price.

Some vibration plates cost several hundred pounds, which feels like quite a commitment when you’re not entirely sure how much you’ll use one.

The MERACH is currently advertised at £79.99, making it a more accessible way to try the trend without spending a fortune.

It’s compact, easy to operate and doesn’t require any particular fitness expertise to get started.

And, perhaps most importantly, it doesn’t need its own dedicated corner of the house.

So, Is It Worth the Shake?

For me, yes.

Not because I think I’ve discovered a miracle fitness machine, but because I’ve found something that fits into my everyday life and makes me feel a little better when that late-afternoon slump hits.

I’m still a firm believer in proper exercise, getting outdoors and keeping active. A vibration plate isn’t going to replace any of that.

But as a quick little pick-me-up between work, family life and the endless business of getting through the day?

It’s earned its place in my kitchen.

And if it means I occasionally reach for the vibration plate before the wine glass, well, that probably isn’t a bad thing either!

Fancy giving it a go?

The MERACH Vibration Plate is available on Amazon, with a price of £79.99 at the time of writing.

This is a personal review based on my own experience, not medical advice. If you have an existing medical condition, recent surgery or concerns about bone or joint health, seek professional advice before using a vibration plate.
