Art, Atmosphere & Elegance: An Afternoon at Tiresford

Last week, we had the joy of attending the private view of Stoneman Collins: Curated at Tiresford.

There’s something undeniably magical about discovering art outside of the white-walled confines of a traditional gallery. Especially when it’s nestled in the heart of the Cheshire countryside, in a house so quietly spectacular it feels like it’s been lifted from the pages of a modern English design journal.

A view from the entrance of a Georgian house, featuring wooden double doors open to a garden with greenery. Potted plants are placed on either side of the doorway, creating a welcoming atmosphere.

Tiresford, a handsome Georgian house set amongst gently undulating fields, became the gallery. Not a gallery within a house — the house itself was the gallery. Every room, from drawing rooms to stairwells, dining areas to tucked-away studies, was curated with contemporary works by both emerging and established artists. The gardens, too, came alive with sculpture — standing proudly to greet you as you wandered in the late afternoon sun.

A beautifully designed living room in a Georgian house, featuring exposed wooden beams, colorful furniture, and contemporary art on the walls, creating an inviting and artistic atmosphere.

From the moment we stepped through the front door, the experience felt immersive and intentional. Stoneman Collins are known for their considered curation, and here, they took it to another level. Art wasn’t just hung — it was placed, it belonged.

A collection of nine framed abstract art pieces arranged in a grid on a wall, with two patterned cushions in the foreground.

It’s the sort of event that reminds you how powerful it is to see art in situ. How a painting can change in tone and emotion when placed above an antique writing desk or next to a velvet armchair. It felt like walking through a home — albeit an exceptionally beautiful one — where every object told a story and every turn revealed a new dialogue between architecture and creativity. And outside, the gardens extended the experience, with sculptures dotted throughout the lawn and beyond.

Leaving Tiresford as dusk settled, we found ourselves reflecting not just on the pieces we’d loved, and reimagine every wall in your own space. It was a reminder that art, at its best, isn’t just something to observe — it’s something to love and to live with.
