How to spruce up a bunch of supermarket bought daffodils or tulips
- Daffodils ooze a slimy sap that is toxic to other flowers/foliage so trim the stems to the preferred length and leave in water for 2-3 hours until the stem ends have sealed. They can then be mixed with other plants.
- Tulips continue to grow after arranging so place lower in the arrangement.
- Spring foliage to pick from your garden is often woody, so snip the bottom of the stem to increase the uptake of water.
- To arrange in a vase, put the foliage in first, followed by flowers, then spikes, ie the branches. Consider the position of the arrangement and the viewing angles.
- To arrange in a bowl, add a ball of chicken wire for support. Arrange the foliage first to set the shape and cover the bowl. Then add interest over and above.
